The beginning

1999 the VMM begins by sending medcal staff to Comalapa:

Dr. Sven Hagenlocher and Antje Frackenpohl started off in a rented building with an outpatients’ clinic, purchased a vehicle and had a small pharmacy adjoining. The medicines were donated by German firms.

Clinica Maya

In 2001 the VMM acquired a building on a plot of land measuring 600 sq.m.  Under the supervision of Dr.Andreas Lenk and Jana Sonneck this became the “Clinica CODIMM Yum Kax “.

The “clinica Maya” gradually grows bigger and bigger and gets water, drainage, toilet/bath/shower, electricity, a guestroom, an emergency generator, also a

telephone, a mini-lab, a high-resolution microscope, an ECG, an ultrasound scanning apparatus, a PC, a photocopying machine, internet connection, colour printer and fax machine.

The standard of this equipment thus becomes the” unique selling point” for Comalapa!

Furthermore the medical staff sent by us continue to improve and enhance the garden, living-rooms, kitchen etc in their free time.

In 2004 an extension is built with space for another treatment room and living quarters for further volunteers from the project.
